First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR, everyone! We hope you all have had a fabulous start to 2018. :)
If you follow our Instagrams, then you may know that we recently flew home to Bali for our year-end holiday. A portion of our vacation was spent at Kamandalu, a 5-star boutique resort & spa nestled in the beautiful hillsides of Ubud. For Maria and I, the last few months of 2017 were a bit of a whirlwind, so the stay at Kamandalu was a much needed time to reflect and refresh (and of course an excuse to completely ignore all emails).
Situated amidst lush green rice terraces, the resort itself is modelled after a traditional Balinese village. So authentic…the whole place serves you that quintessential Balinese charm. We stayed in a one bedroom pool villa, complete with a private garden, pool, and a thatched-roofed bale bengong (Balinese day-bed). The villa included a complimentary yoga session each morning, plus a visit to the resort’s spa!
It’s hard to choose because there were so many, but one of the biggest highlights was the (extremely massive) floating breakfast we had during day two of our stay. We loved having the option of breakfast delivered straight to our villa, because yes, we’re lazy bums…and our view of the lush jungle from the pool was the cherry on top. Speaking of unforgettable meals, Kamandalu also offers a private and very romantic dinner for couples. And even though we’re obviously not a couple, Maria and I were given the opportunity to experience it firsthand, and let me tell you, it’s incredible! The resort arranges special decor, a 6-course meal, a personal server, and even your own private guitarist + singer to keep you entertained while you dine. All this from a tree deck above a view of lush jungle greenery that will literally take your breath away.
Another reason why we loved this resort is because of the wonderful staff. Everyone was courteous and there was always a sense of personal service. And since one of the days during our stay happened to fall on Mother’s Day, the staff was kind enough to arrange a lovely afternoon of high-tea near the rice paddies. Our mom absolutely loved this surprise!
Thank you Kamandalu (shoutout to the team, especially Mia!) for providing us complete solitude and serenity during the last days of 2017. What a way to end the year!
