Maya Ubud Resort and Spa is one of the 100 best resorts in the world. After staying two nights at this 5 star natural haven, we knew exactly why. If you want nothing more than to escape the crowded tourist magnets of Kuta and Seminyak and instead are keen on a secluded quiet getaway, this lush sanctuary is your answer.

Sprawled at about 9 hectares in the middle of the rainforest, the first thing you want to do upon arriving in this beautiful location is explore every inch of it. The forest, rice paddies, a small river and waterfall, trekking grounds,  two infinity pools – one set amid the forest greenery and the other just above the river valley – the beautiful Balinese architecture, the list goes on!

This resort will keep you busy as well. There are yoga classes, cooking classes, cycling, riverside picnics, trekking, an award winning Spa at Maya beside the Petanu River, and after all the listed activities, they don’t forget to cater to your tastebuds (our  favorite). Maya Ubud spoil their guests with three restaurants as well as have an all day open bar called the Bar Bedulu. If you enjoy dining in open spaces while enjoying the best nature has to offer, this place pretty much has it down to an art. Moreover, one of the highlights for us as tea lovers is that they offer daily complimentary afternoon tea and cake!

After afternoon tea and a dip in one of the infinity pools, we loved to unwind in our villa. Keep in mind that Maya Ubud is designed for couples, business travelers, and small families (with one to two children), as the Garden villas consists of romantic canopied beds – one king size bed or two twin mattresses with the availability of one extra bed. Our own private pool was the icing on the cake.

Ubud is not the only place you can find this gem. Maya Sanur Resort has just recently opened in the heart of the little seaside town and we were thrilled to have a sneak peek! You don’t expect what you see when you first enter the lobby; high ceilings, open spaces, and a balcony that looks over a 158 meter divide lagoon pool.  Every one of its 103 spacious rooms are thoughtfully designed, as well as the entire vicinity – three swimming pools, three dining venues, the Spa at Maya, beachfront tree bar and lounge overlooking Sanur beach.

Our three night getaway with the ever so tranquil Maya Ubud and Maya Sanur left us relaxed, calm and at peace. We truly felt and understood the resort’s respect towards nature and its surroundings as well as it’s dedication in giving it’s guests a truly majestic experience. We cannot thank the lovely staff enough for an unforgettable stay!
